Pharoahe Monch

An artist from birth, the Queens NY born and bred emcee began his experience with expression as a visual artist, putting his heart and soul on canvas. While in art school, Pharoahe was introduced to hip-hop culture through its visual manifestations of graffiti and fashion. From there he discovered djing and rapping and instantly recognized them as the viable means of expression. To Pharoahe, art is a unifying force that brings together all divisions.

In 1999 he released the single ‘Simon Says’ which received international acclaim and secured him his place as one of the leaders of emerging Hip Hop scene. Since then he has released three solo albums, a mixtape and 13 singles, not to mention three albums prior to this with partner Prince Po under the guise of Organized Konfusion.

His third solo album ‘W.A.R” (we are renegades) released in March 2011 featured guest appearances from an array of artists including Jill Scott, Styles P, Citizen Cope, Jean Grae and Immortal Technique and was themed around a throwback to throwback to the old skool and featured production by a range of producers including Exile, Marco Polo, M-Phazes and Pharoahe Monch himself.

Since then to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘internal affairs’ it was re-issued and released featuring a documentary about the making of the album.
His most recent album ‘PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder’ was released in April 2014 and still displays the lyrical genius and creativity that has made this artist a well-recognised and respected purveyor of the Hip Hop scene.
