Garnet Silk Jr.

From reggae royalty rises singing sensation Garnet Silk Jr, son and namesake of the legendary reggae artist Garnet Silk. Exposed to the world of music since his birth on April 3rd in Mandeville, Jamaica, Garnet Smith Jr (Garnet Silk Jr) continues to walk the path of a musical legacy that has been set in stone since his birth.

Garnet Jr fatefully began his journey with music with his first professional recording at the tender age of 13, after years of dabbling in the various genres of music. Family friend and producer Lloyd “Pecus” Anderson recorded his first track, “Jah A Guide.” The song was never officially released as a single but granted Garnet Jr invaluable recording experience, and has helped him to shape his sound over the years. Maturing into a seasoned singer and songwriter, Garnet Jr. makes music that flows from his soul. His lyrics showcase intelligence, and a desire to fortify the already sturdy pillar that is conscious reggae. His musical style is a melting pot of R&B and reggae, and is greatly influenced by his father, as well as other reggae luminaries such as Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Jah Cure and I-Wayne, and also the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson; they have all captured the ears of this auspicious artist, and thus, contribute to his genre bending sound.

Thursday June 2, 2016 marked the launch of Garnet’s debut album ‘Let Reuben Live’, hosted at Redbones Café in Kingston. In a riveting 90-minute performance, reggae fans were treated to the sounds and surprises of Garnet’s debut record, which is now available on all digital platforms. From songs like the revolutionary ‘Jah Chosen Few’ to the cool aesthetics of the acoustic ‘Lady Divine’.

Garnet Jr, alongside his brother Fabian “Eon Smit” Smith have come together to launch Reuben Order, a reggae label meant to be the foundation of young Silk’s stance in the music fraternity. It is also a homage paid to their late father. The debut project ‘Let Reuben Live’ is distributed by VPAL Music, one of Reuben Order’s many collaborators. As of 2016 they have joined efforts with Vicrae Inc. and hope to bring positivity not only to the Jamaican scene, but to the rest of the world as well.
