Evolving out of lead singer Josh and brother Matt Whitehouse’s former band Fran & Josh, More Like Trees formed in March 2011 in North London. With the addition of double bass player Lachlan Radford, this 3-piece acoustic act combine elements of Flamenco, Drum & Bass, Classical, Hip Hop, Indie, Dance and Folk to create a new genre dubbed ‘Strum & Bass.
Fronted by the extraordinarily talented and multi-faceted Josh Whitehouse, MLT’s blend of innovative drum & bass expression on the cajon, funk-infused bass lines and skilled song-writing ability has been noticed by various acclaimed musicians and mainstream radio DJ’s, including many at BBC 6 music.
In spring 2011, MLT recorded an acoustic reworking of the album ‘Dark Days, High Nights’ by world female D&B MC Tali. The album laid waste to any scepticism toward the idea of acoustic D&B and landed MLT the first ever live band slot at Sardinia’s Sun & Bass festival.
That summer MLT toured the UK festival circuit, largely as part of the Chai Wallahs repertoire, but also supporting Billy Bragg, where by Billy’s own admission, they stole the show. It was through Chai Wallahs that MLT met producer John Hendicott (Chipmunk, Portico Quartet) and in early 2012 began working together on their debut ep ‘Full Circle’, which they released in November 2012.
2013 saw the release of their debut album, ‘Roots Shoots & Leaves’ on BBE Records and 2014 saw the acting debut of Josh as lead role in Elaine Constantine’s forthcoming movie ‘Northern Soul’ alongside Steve Coogan and Ricky Tomlinson.
