TC & The Groove Family

TC & The Groove Family are a 9-piece collective whose music celebrates the coming together of cultures and the unity that music can provide for everyone. Their sound reflects the diverse musical and cultural backgrounds at the core of the project, exploring grooves and genres including afrobeat, broken beat, jungle, jazz, and grime.

Driven by drummer Tim Cook (TC), fronted by Sheffield wordsmith Franz Von, and powered by an engine room complete with horns, percussion, guitars, and bass, their live shows are impactful and dynamic—creating moments of euphoria and stillness to keep audiences on their toes.

The band have sold out iconic venues including Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club and London’s Jazz Café, and have appeared at major UK festivals including Glastonbury, We Out Here, Green Man, Shambala, Boomtown, and WOMAD. They have also been invited to support the likes of Vieux Farka Touré, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, K.O.G, Nubiyan Twist, and Yussef Dayes, en route to becoming one of the most sought-after live acts on the UK jazz circuit.

Their debut album, First Home (2022, Bristol label Worm Discs — Snazzback, corto.alto), was recorded and produced by Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, ONIPA). The record reflects upon home as being about the people and community you share it with, rather than a fixed physical space.

Their 2024 EP, We Have Each Other, channels a deep appreciation of UK bass and electronic music alongside afro-jazz sounds and hip-hop sensibilities, transmitting a message of solidarity and unity in a time of global turbulence. To deepen their connection with electronic music, the band have also released two remix projects, collaborating with the likes of Mia Koden, OneDa, Blue Lab Beats, Nikitch, t l k, and more.

TC & The Groove Family’s music has found support from tastemakers including Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Don Letts, and Craig Charles on BBC Radio 6, plus support from BBC Introducing, Jazz FM, Rinse FM, NTS, and others. They’ve also been championed by major publications including Jazzwise and Songlines, with their songs featured in key editorial playlists across streaming platforms.
