The Kubricks
Based in London, The Kubricks are a seven-piece band that seamlessly blends ska, reggae, and irresistibly catchy melodic pop.
Having burst onto the scene in 2013 with their debut EP, ‘Wasters & Wannabes’, The Kubricks quickly earned a reputation as one of the must-see ska bands of their generation. Tracks from their debut release received support from Huey Morgan on BBC Radio 2, Tom Robinson (BBC Introducing – 6Music), and Horace Panter, the bassist for The Specials, who praised the band, stating, “I can hear Madness, The Ruts, Squeeze, and The Clash in there.” This coincided with a renewed interest in ska music, with many of the UK’s festivals dedicating entire stages to the genre. Riding this wave, the band found themselves sharing the stage with legends such as UB40, Bad Manners, and The Toasters.
Produced by Toby Davies of Gentleman’s Dub Club, the band’s debut album, ‘The Heist’, dropped in 2017. The UK’s longest-running skazine, Do The Dog, dubbed it, “A very strong contender for album of the year,” while Bucketlist in Canada described it as, “A gem of an album that makes ska and reggae seem like a perfect fit with 21st-century musical trends.” Tom Robinson (6Music) immediately shared the track ‘Down With the Dogs’ with his listeners, and BBC Introducing in Essex invited the band for a live session.
After completing two autumn UK tours and securing a publishing deal with Wipe Out Music, The Kubricks unveiled their latest album, ‘Between Antipodes’, in December 2022. Representing their most ska-pop record to date, the album was produced by Tom Donovan, a producer and musician from the hip-hop act Monster Florence.
The Kubricks have perfected their dynamic live set, headlining their own shows and gracing festivals across Europe. Over the years, they’ve played to tens of thousands at notable events such as the Isle of Wight Festival, Kendal Calling, Green Man, Shambala, Boomtown Fair, Bearded Theory’s Spring Gathering, Godiva, Weinturm Open Air (Germany), Lott Festival (Germany), Zik ‘n’ Roll (France), Dance Ska La (France), and The London International Ska Festival, among many others.
