We are very pleased to be booking for UK Hip Hop legend TY who releases his brand new album this Autumn. TY a UK hip-hop act of the finest calibre, with a reputation built on his original style and refusal to hop on any industry bandwagon, Ty is best known for his lyrical frankness and honest portrayals of everyday life. This has led to the release of four successful albums and a Mercury Prize nomination, among many high profile plaudits.
After gaining notoriety on the London underground scene Ty released his mighty debut album ‘Awkward’ on Big Dada records in 2001, followed by his 2003 Mercury-nominated‘Upwards’ and ‘Closer’ (2006). Ty then signed to Tru Thoughts records in January 2013 to begin the next stage in a remarkable career releasing a two-part EP “Kick Snare & An Idea” which achieved official Playlisting on BBC 6Music, MTV Base and gaining support onBBC 1Xtra and Choice FM among many others.
Since his fourth solo album, ‘Special Kind of Fool’, was released in 2010 via BBE records, Ty has featured and collaborated with many artists stretching from America to France including a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse in 2012, and most recently recorded a track with formerRadio 1 DJ and producer Kissy Sell Out.
A lifelong love of hip hop has seen the honest speaking South Londoner gain skills in sound engineering and producing, the latter leading to work with Scratch Perverts, Talib Kweli,Blak Twang and Arrested Development. With a reputation for his work as a spoken word artist, he has performed and hosted workshops for the British Council as well as performances at The Big Chill Festival and The Royal Albert Hall and is also a member of The HipHop Shakespeare Company, founded by the fiercely intelligent rising London MC Akala to run workshops with young people, showing the influences and works of Shakespeare in today’s music scene.
Following on from the incredible outpouring of support for his “Kick Snare & An Idea”releases, which unveiled 5 new tracks featuring stellar turns from the likes of Akala andDurrty Goodz, Ty travelled out on tour to Australia in Summer 2013, to much national acclaim. In September, Ty surprised and wowed the crowds at London’s iTunes Festivalwhen he joined Aloe Blacc onstage to provide a bespoke verse on the worldwide smash hit “I Need A Dollar”.
“Kick Snare & An Idea Part 3” in early 2014, rounded off the trio of releases in fine style, heightening the anticipation for the next full album, in the works right now.
In 2015 TY was called to represent the UK in the Hip Hop Takeover, hosted by Ones and Twos and British Underground at A3C festival, Atlanta.
